In this ambitious epic with romantic undertones, the fates of three men intertwine over nearly 85 years of Spanish history. This film won the Best Director Award at the lastes Cannes Film Festival and was selected to represent Spain in the race for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

“Los Javis,” aka Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, celebrate the work of Federico García Lorca by interweaving an adaptation of his unfinished novel La bola negra (1939) with that of the play La piedra oscura (2013) by Alberto Conejero, who also wrote the film’s screenplay. Three lives intertwine over the years: in 1932, a young man is rejected because of rumors about his homosexuality; five years later, a soldier in the fascist army falls in love with a prisoner; in 2017, a historian examines his family’s legacy. Through the inventive and passionate gaze of the two directors, these intimate stories resonating across time are transformed into epic fables that promise an aesthetic and emotional impact. Starring Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González and Milo Quifes, as well as Glenn Close and Penélope Cruz.
