Paris, 1889. Rose, a young mother who has just arrived in the capital, takes on the role of a wet nurse and fights for her daughter’s well-being. The compelling and long-forgotten story of courageous women.

At the end of the 19th century, Rose has just become a mother and takes a job as a wet nurse in Paris to provide for her daughter, Apolline. To help her friend Louise and ensure the best possible future for her infant, she reluctantly decides to swap the baby with the deceased daughter of a bourgeois family. Her destiny then takes an unexpected turn. Part period thriller, part intimate drama—backed by meticulous research, dazzling historical reenactments, and inspired by Eugène Brieux’s play Les Remplaçantes (1901)—Sorority sheds light on a little-known profession and offers a fresh perspective on class struggle, but above all on women’s struggles against the hidden forces of male power.
