In the middle of the desert, step inside the Sunset Motel. Gilles Jobin brings Thomas Ott’s black-and-white world to life in a strange dance macabre filled with colorful characters.
In the middle of the desert, a motel awaits passing souls. Cross the road, push open the door, and freely explore its rooms, lobby, and pool, populated by nine characters as solitary as they are eccentric. With Sunset Motel (selected for the 2026 Venice Biennale), Geneva-based choreographer Gilles Jobin brings to life—through motion capture—the graphic universe of comic book artist Thomas Ott. Ott’s deep blacks, etched with a blade, become a three-dimensional setting where stories unfold without words, through gesture and the body. A strange dance of death in which you might well become the next character.
