In his latest feature film, director Mike Leigh returns to a heartwarming family story in which Amy discovers the challenges her aging parents are facing. The film was the big winner at the latest San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it received the awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Leading Performance for Kate O’Flynn.
Renowned British director Mike Leigh returns with his sixteenth feature film (which has been announced as possibly his last), true to the style we’ve come to expect from him: understated and elegant. Going through a difficult time, Amy moves in for a while with her friend Rosie, who is also a social worker nearing forty. She begins visiting her elderly parents more and more often and engages in long conversations with them, until she notices that something has changed... As subtle as ever in his exploration of British society and with his finely crafted writing, Leigh tackles the passage of time with equal parts humor and dignity, casting a few warm rays of light on life’s gloomy moments.
