In 19th-century Iran, a young woman is thrown into prison for setting fire to a store. As her fellow inmates try to comfort her, one of them tells her her story…
The prisoner’s story begins with that of her father, Nowruz. For him—who designs the intricate patterns for the carpets of a thriving factory and teaches calligraphy to the governor’s sons—the future looks bright and peaceful. But his fate takes a dramatic turn when he locks eyes with Fanous, a Romani woman passing through the city. Moved by her fierceness and distress, will Nowruz shatter his peaceful existence to help his new friend? Created by Iranian director Ida Panahandeh, this series—whose intertwined stories, reminiscent of One Thousand and One Nights, transport us to Qajar-era Iran—weaves and unravels the fates of its characters like the threads of a tragic tapestry. The music by composer Ramin Kousha (Outlander, Leila's Brothers) completes this emotionally overflowing picture.
